At the meeting of the Jesse W. Grisham post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Monday night the following officers were elected: William M. Harton, commander.

H.F. Moseley, senior vice commander; B.L. Carmichael, junior vice commander; Edward Cook, chaplain; Waren Voyles, quartermaster, S.S. Barlow, surgeon; R.J. Hammond, officer of the day, and E.S. Hahn, post advocate.

Dr. Kathleen Jones, missionary to the Dutch East Indies and a featured speaker at the Baptist Student Union convention in session in Conway this weekend, will be guest speaker at the morning service tomorrow at Second Baptist Church.

The Rev. William West is pastor. The service will be at 10:50 a.m.

Don Bivens of the New Home community east of Guy has been appointed District 1 justice of the peace by Gov. Bill Clinton.

Bivins, 44, replaces his father, Herman Bivins, who resigned from the Faulkner County Quorum Court in September because of ill health.

A Faulkner County native, Bivens is owner of Don Bivens Construction Co. of Quitman and has been a member of the Guy-Perkins School District’s Board of Education for about seven years.

Buck Freyaldenhoven caught a 50-pound fish on a recent fishing trip to the Mississippi River at Memphis with his son, John. The fish was caught using a rod and reel.
