Miss Betty Jane Lewellyn entertained the Rainbow girls and their dates Saturday evening at her home on Center Street. The interior was attractively decorated for the occasion and games were played and gifts exchanged from a Christmas tree. Dainty refreshments were served. Mrs. R.C. Lewellyn and Mrs. Theodore Bleidt assisted in serving and entertaining the guests.

50 years ago


The Central Federation of America met at Greenbrier High School Dec. 14. The chapters attending were Mount Vernon, Plumerville, Fox, Southside, Vilonia, Greenbrier, Guy, Quitman, Enola, Conway, Shirley and Leslie.

A contest was held to pick a sweetheart and talent team to represent the Central Federation in the district contest. Each of the 12 chapters were represented by a sweetheart. Misses Jo Ann String of Quitman won first place, Kathy Purifoy of Greenbrier, second and Wilma Kersey of Fox, third.

Five chapters competed in the talent contest. They were Fox, Vilonia, Guy, Conway and Leslie. Conway won first place, Guy, second, and Leslie, third.

Jeffrey Russell Mills, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Mills of Conway, was among 121 graduates who received diplomas Friday in fall commencement ceremonies at Harding University in Searcy.

Mills, who earned a 3.54 cumulative grade-point average, was awarded a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
