LITTLE ROCK — While northwest Arkansas waited for possible freezing rain, western and central Arkansas endured heavy showers that triggered a number of flash flood warnings.

The National Weather Service predicted the Saturday flooding on Friday and a flash flood watch for most of the state was in effect. Flash flood warnings included Mena, Russellville and other points as the weather system moved northeast.

A tornado watch for south, central and northeast Arkansas was in effect until midnight.

Forecasters said freezing rain was possible in and around Fayetteville later Saturday night.

Cold air entered the state’s northwest, where temperatures were in the 30s as evening approached while central and southern Arkansas had temperatures in the 70s.

More than an inch of rain fell Saturday in central and north Arkansas.
