Hal Fraser, a lieutenant in the United States infantry reserves, today reported to Little Rock for a week’s training before being assigned to command of a civilian conservation corps camp in this state. Lieutenant Fraser has been in the reserve corps since 1932, but his Army service had been limited to two weeks training each summer.

Calvin Burks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Burks, recently was named supervising teacher of a new school in Oracle Village States, near San Manuel, Ariz.

Burks, a college of the Ozarks graduate, also teaches eighth grade in the frontier school.

Pete and Kim Moore of Greenbrier are parents of a daughter, Candace Marie, born Monday (Jan. 18, 1988) at Conway Regional Hospital. The baby weighed 9 pounds. Grandparents are Jim and Helen Moore of Greenbrier and Ray Stell and Freda Roberts, both of Conway. Step-grandparents are Maxine Stell and Jimmy Don Roberts, both of Conway.

Louise Furst of Conway has been named the 2003 Public Citizen of the Year by the North Central branch of the Arkansas Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.

Furst will now be in the running for overall Public Citizen of the Year.
