Miss Robbie Belle Tanner entertained a number of her friends Saturday evening at her home with a Valentine dance. The interior was beautifully decorated with Valentine colors and suggestions. At the intermission, heart-shaped sandwiches and red heart-shaped cakes with punch were served by Mrs. C.J. Tanner, assisted by Mrs. C.A. Rosemond.

Karen Larson, 17, senior at St. Joseph High School, is a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship contest.

Miss Larson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Larson of Conway, is vice president of her class and is captain of the senior girls basketball team.

Berthenia Lois Gill, of Mayflower, has been elected to membership in the American Society of Notaries, a national non-profit organization of persons who hold the office of notary public.

Mrs. Gill is the assistant director of the minority business development division of the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission.

Ellen Smith Elementary School recently held its spelling bee. Winners were Dalton Stoeber, second place; Trevor Ferguson, first place, Tyler Davis, fourth place, and Jamilah Cummings, third place. Trevor will participate in the Faulkner County Spelling Bee Saturday, Feb. 22.
