LITTLE ROCK — Mayflower opened its baseball season Wednesday with a 15-4 victory over Little Rock Christian.
The Eagles broke the game open with a 12-run fourth inning in which they sent 16 batters to the plate.
Derek Vickers struck out four and allowed only one run in the five-inning game to pick up the win. The Eagles were led at the plate by Vickers, Trey Bradley, Tyler Herrin and Justin Sewell with two hits each. Also providing offense were Michael Post, Austin Grundy and Garrett Taylor.
In JV action, the Eagles lost, 7-0, as they were only able to muster hits by Austin Grundy and Tyler Godwin. Ryan Koonce took the loss on the mound.
The Eagles play Magnet Cove at 4 p.m. Friday at home.
Hendrix downs Ozarks in baseball
The Hendrix College baseball team picked up a 4-1 victory over University of the Ozarks on a chilly night at Warrior Field on Wednesday.
The Warriors (4-6) outhit the Eagles (7-4) 10-7.
Austin Womack led the Warriors with three hits, a double and two stolen bases. Jacob Perschke had two hits with two driven in, and Ryan Ritz also had a pair of hits. An infield hit by Collin Radack extended his hitting streak to 15 games.
Hendrix senior Ted Smoyer (1-0) picked up the win by going seven innings, fanning seven and allowing six hits, one run and a walk. Junior Justin Mosbey picked up his first save the year by getting the final two outs, including a strikeout after inheriting a bases-loaded jam.
Hendrix will return to action on Friday when they host Berry College in its first-ever Southern Athletic Association series.
