Shady Grove

It is with a heavy heart that I begin this column, as I cannot get the people of Moore, Okla., off of my mind. I do not know anyone there personally, but do have a personal connection as that is the location of the office that Chelsey is associated with. They were fortunate to not be affected by the tornado. They were approximately one mile from the damage. All of her co-workers were OK. Some had damage to their homes, but otherwise alright. If you are not familiar with Moore, it is a part of the Oklahoma City metroplex. Chelsey lives in Edmond, Okla., which runs into Oklahoma City, then Moore and Norman. You just run out of one into the other.

In relation to the Moore victims, Bethlehem Church is partnering with Antioch Baptist Church in Conway collecting supplies to be sent on June 1. They will be taken to Southgate Baptist Church in Moore, which is a couple of blocks from the destruction and has been designated as an official relief center. Southgate is one of our BMA sisters in Christ. If you would like to donate any items or cash, please bring to Bethlehem Church in the Shady Grove community by Wednesday, May 29. You may drop them at the church office or bring on Sunday or Wednesday. Go to for a list of needed items.

Now on a brighter side — Gale Garrison and Jimmie Lee Merritt accompanied the Central Baptist Church Golden Agers on May 9 to an outing at Cotham’s in Scott, Ark. They toured the plantation Agriculture Museum State Park.

Ed and Linda Hammontree had friends visit from Texas this past week. They spent several days in Branson, Mo., together.

Tomorrow is the Annual Homecoming Services at Bono Baptist Church in the community. Worship service begins at 10:45 a.m. followed by a Fish Fry lunch. A special singing service will begin at 1:30 p.m. You are invited to attend any or all of the events of the day to help them celebrate another year of service to our great God.

Summer is upon us and a lot of travelling and vacationing will be going on. Please send me notes about your fun times this summer at
