With a maximum temperature of 93 yesterday afternoon, Monday was the hottest day at Conway thus far in 1938, E.E. Cordrey, local observer for the weather bureau, said today. The previous high mark for the year was 91. In May last year the maximum temperature was 94.

Unsettled weather with thundershowers was forecast for tonight and Wednesday.

Patricia Ruth McNutt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray McNutt of Conway, was one of 170 graduates of Harding College at commencement exercises yesterday.

Miss McNutt received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with minors in English and social science. Graduating cum laude, Miss McNutt was a member of Delta Chi Omega social club, Bison Boosters and the Student National Education Association.

She is a 1959 graduate of Conway High School.

Matt Hardage, 11, tried to sell a stapler to classmates yesterday that he claims was once owned by Elvis Presley. Matt delivered the convincing sales pitch as an exercise in improvisation during a drama workshop put on by Conway High school drama students Carla Price and Bill Harmon. The workshop included about 30 students enrolled in the Vilonia Elementary School PALS (Promoting Accelerated Learning in schools) program.

Acting techniques and discipline were discussed and directed by the CHS students. Matt is a son of Dr. and Mrs. Jim Hardage.

Emily Wish competed in the Hula-Hoop competition at Melissa Randall’s kindergarten class at Ellen Smith Elementary School on Thursday afternoon. Randall’s class celebrated the last day of school with a Hawaiian-themed party that included tropical foods, games and costumes.
