Mrs. George Bachelor entertained the morning class at the Radley school Friday with a lawn party on the school grounds in honor of the fifth birthday anniversary of her little daughter, Katie Jo.

The guest list included Ann Robbins, Nancy Sue Davis, Judy Gibbons, Mike Hartje, Lyle Hassel, Jimmie Fulmer, Jim Gooden, A.E. Treadway and Teddy Jean Ashcraft.

George Curtis Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George D. Curtis of Conway, recovered a 14-carat diamond Sept. 28 while prospecting on the Potaro River in British Guiana.

The stone, believed to be the third largest ever recovered in the area, is worth about $12,000 in the United States. Only about 15-20 stones are recovered annually in the area.

Curtis is associated with a diamond mining firm with headquarters in California and has been prospecting in British Guiana for 19 months.

The Conway Lil’ Sugar Bears, a 12-and-under fast-pitch team, finished fourth last weekend at the USSSA state championships at Hope. Team members are: Mallory Halter, Kesler Roberts, Lauren Rivers. Kristin Shock, Madi Throneberry, Kristina Chudy, Julie Sherrill, Ashley Cyr, Natalye Chudy, Brittany Braden, Riley Perrigo and coaches Cendey Roberts, Chris Throneberry and Shane Lamb.
