THIBODAUX, La. — The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team swept Nicholls State, 25-11, 25-15, 25-23, for its 10th straight victory, losing only two sets in the process.
Central Arkansas (17-3, 9-0 SLC) was led offensively by Evie Grace Singleton, who had 11 kills and a .526 hitting percentage, and Kyle Hartman, who turned in 11 kills and two blocks. Fulani Petties chipped in nine kills, while Scout Brooks added eight to go along with three service aces. The Sugar Bear offense was keyed by Marissa Collins and Amy South, who dished out 24 and 11 assists, respectively. Shelbee Berringer and Alicia Dittrich led the defense, with Berringer digging six balls and Dittrich contributing three blocks.
LITTLE ROCK — The University of Central Arkansas swept the men’s and women’s team and individual titles at the UALR Invitational on Saturday at Murray Park.
Freshman Brooke Cassar won the women’s 5K race in a time of 16:40.03, shattering her school record by more than 25 seconds. Senior Erika Setzler finished second (16:57.25) as UCA had five finishers in the Top 10. UCA won the meet, followed by Lousiana-Lafayette, Arkansas State, UALR, UAPB, McMurry, Arkansas Tech and Henderson State.
UCA’s Kayla Nehus finished fourth (17:54.21), while Brigette Caruthers was sixth (18:18.45) and Megan Effinger was eighth (18:34.26). Briana Stuepfort was 15th (19:17.92) and Casandra Rosas was 19th (19:40.72).
On the men’s side, senior Edward Limo won the 8K title in a time of 24:27.44 as UCA placed four runners in the Top 10. Jonathan Burgess finished third (24:54.13), while Amos Gerber was fourth (24:56.33). Corentin Louis was sixth (25:05.72). Grant Williams finished 11th (25:23.82), Albert Maeder was 13th (25:34.42) and James Leonard was 15th (25:49.58).
UCA was first, followed by UALR, Arkansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, UAPB and McMurry.
MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — After winning three consecutive Southern Athletic Association matches, the Hendrix volleyball team’s streak came to end at the hands of Berry College on Saturday afternoon.
The first-place Vikings (17-5, 10-1) took the match from the Warriors (14-10, 5-6) 25-16, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20.
Senior outside hitter Katie Burchfield paced Hendrix with nine kills to go with two aces and 15 digs. Freshman middle blocker Grace Griffin connected on a season-best eight kills and freshman outside MC Rogers had nine.
Hendrix will travel to Atlanta to face Oglethorpe University on Sunday.
HENDRIX WOMEN’S SOCCER
wBirmingham-Southern limited the Hendrix women to only one shot on goal Saturday on the way to a 1-0 soccer victory.
The Hendrix College women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Birmingham-Southern College in Southern Athletic Association action on Saturday evening.
The visiting Panthers (5-8, 2-2) outshot the Warriors (6-5-3, 1-2-1) 28-1 and 10-0 on goal.
Nicole Newton scored the lone goal for BSC in the 41st minute.
GREENBRIER JUNIOR FOOTBALL
GREENBRIER — Greenbrier’s junior football team upped its conference record to 4-0 Thursday with a 30-22 victory over Morrilton.
Carter Burcham passed 40 and 50 yards to Jason Hill and 20 yards to Paxton Wallace for touchdowns. Wallace added a two-point conversion. Wallace added conversions on a power run play and a pass play. Burcham scored on a 63-yard scamper and caught a pass from Wallace for another two-point conversion.
Defensive leaders were Jimmy Strough, Kyle Harshberger, DJ Harmon, Alex Massey, and Brandon Thomas.
HENDRIX FIELD HOCKEY
ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Hendrix College field hockey team wrapped up their three-game trip to Missouri with a 5-0 loss to Denison University on Saturday afternoon.
The Big Red (14-1) outshot the Warriors (0-11) 38-4 overall and 23-3 on goal.
