Occurring just one day later than last year, the first killing frost and freezing temperature of the autumn season was recorded at Conway today.

Little damage was expected to result locally from the freeze.

Sue Hammond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hammond of Conway, is editor of The Echo, student newspaper at Arkansas State Teachers College. Miss Hammond is a junior and is a member of the Echo staff two years before becoming editor. Miss Roberta Clay, associate professor of journalism, is sponsor.

Army Sgt. Jeffery A. Jernigan recently participated in the NATO-sponsored exercise, Return of Forces to Germany ‘88. A 1982 graduate of Harding Academy at Searcy, Jernigan is a son of Joan Bennett of Rose Bud.

Robert Gary Shepherd of Conway has been called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints in the Mexico, Mexico City North Mission.

Shepherd will enter the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, on Wednesday, Nov. 19, for eight weeks of Spanish language training before going to Mexico.

He is a son of Beckie Shepherd of Conway and a 2002 Conway High School graduate and has been attending Brigham Young University Idaho. He will pursue his education when he returns in 24 months.
