Troop No. 1, Conway Girl Scouts, took a hay ride Wednesday evening, singing Christmas carols as their contribution to the spirit of Christmas cheer. Two large vehicles filled with about 30 girls drove over the city singing merry carols and admiring the beautiful holiday decorations throughout both business and residential districts. After the ride, refreshments were served at the home of Mrs. Carl E. Heizman on Robinson Avenue. Chaperones were Mrs. James W. Byrd, captain, and Mrs. Heizman and Miss Helen Blanch Westmoreland, lieutenants.

Conway’s Wampus Cats pried the lid far enough off a lingering deep freeze Friday night to see their way to a 44-34 decision over the Mabelvale Lions in the finals of the Region 3AA tournament.

The man who got them out of the squeeze in the third quarter was Jeff Shannon, a slender 6-2 senior who might have found a long-sought starting point in this one. Shannon stuck in three straight jumpers right after the half to push the Wampus Cats to a commanding lead which they never were in danger of losing.
