CLEARWATER, Fla. — Trailing 1-0 in the sixth, 20th-ranked Stanford rallied late to defeat the University of Central Arkansas softball team, 7-3, in the Under Armour Invitational here Friday morning.

The Cardinal scored three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to break the game open.

The Bears will play five games in the three-game tournament.


MEMPHIS, Tenn. — After falling behind 18-8 early, Centre rallied for a 64-50 over Hendrix College on Friday in the first round of the Southern Athletic Association women’s tournament here.

The Colonels (17-9) shot 63.6 percent (7 of 11) from 3-point range.

Estrella Flores led Hendrix with 14 points. Taylor Neal added 12 and Jaime Tate had nine and nine rebounds.

The Warriors finished the season 12-14.


MOUNT VERNON — Nemo Vista’s girls moved into the championship game of the Class Class A Region 3 tournament Friday with a 56-48 victory over Mount Vernon-Enola.

The Lady Warhawks drew within 42-38 early in the fourth quarter before the Lady Red Hawks mounted a 7-0 run to pull away.

Heather Prouse led the Lady Warhawks with 25 points.

MV-Enola will play for a No. 3 seed in next week’s state tournament Saturday afternoon.


HASKELL — Mayflower’s boys (22-6) clinched a Class 3A state tournament berth Thursday with a 69-41 romp over Barton in regional play at Benton Harmony Grove.

The Eagles played Harding Academy in Friday night’s semifinals.

Hayden Long led the Eagles with 26 points, J.P. Perry added 13, Drew

Duncan had 12, and Lloyd Lasker 11.
