Early voting in the runoff election for the Republican nomination for Faulkner County Sheriff started Tuesday with 411 residents turning out. Early voting continues 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays through March 21 at the Faulkner County Courthouse.
Polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, March 22, at the Don Owen Sports Complex, McGee Center, Greenbrier City Events Center, Mayflower City Hall and Vilonia First Baptist Church. Voting will not be conducted at the courthouse or library on Election Day.
Those who voted in the Democratic primary are not eligible to vote in the runoff. Doing so would be crossover voting, which is a Class A misdemeanor. All other registered voters in the county, including those who didn’t vote in the March 1 primary election, are eligible to vote in the runoff.
According to final, official results, Tim Ryals received a little more than 49 percent of the votes with 8,782 while Rocky Lawrence received 4,604 votes, which amounted to nearly 26 percent in the March 1 primary.
The winner of the runoff will face Democrat Wefus K. Tyus Jr. in the Nov. 8 general election.
