The Conway Human Development Center will host its 34th annual Walk-A-Thon on Oct. 1.

This year’s theme, "Stepping into the Future," will give participants the opportunity to dress up as their favorite "Star Wars" characters.

"We are dressing up as our favorite ‘Star Wars’ characters to [raise] money and awareness for the residents of the Conway Human Development Center," Elizabeth Litton, volunteer services coordinator at CHDC, said in a news release. "We need your support more than ever."

Litton said CHDC’s Volunteer Council is working hard to raise money to add a fully equipped and fully functioning track that will "add to the residents’ daily recreational activities" and give the athletes a place to train and host Special Olympics and other activities to involve residents, family members, friends and community members.

Registration for the event opens at 7 a.m. and the walk begins at 8 a.m. Participants can also register by mailing in entry forms, found on CHDC’s website, and fees to ATTN: Volunteer Services, 150 E. Siebenmorgen Road, Conway, AR 72032.

There will be free refreshments available before, during and after the event.

Door prizes will be given away and a certificate will be awarded to the best dressed "Star Wars." First-, second- and third-place winners will also be recognized.

Entry fees are $25 a person, T-shirt included.

The 2016 Walk-A-Thon will be hosted on the CHDC campus at the Visitation Complex at 150 E. Siebenmorgen Road.
