J. W. Matthews of Enola called on the Log Cabin Democrat and renews his subscription today. Mr. Matthews is one of the few surviving "charter" subscribers to the old Log Cabin. He received the first issue of the paper, which was published in 1879 by A. F. Livingston, and has been a regular reader ever since.

Principal Conway barber shops have raised the prices of tonsorial work, it was learned today. Barber shop owners put the new prices into effect without public announcement. Prices of haircuts were raised from 35 to 40 cents and shaves from 20 to 25 cents.

Pictured, Nany Selig, an Arkansas State Teachers College freshman and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Selig, was chosen queen of the Faulkner County Fair at the close of the annual exposition Saturday night at the YBMA Fairgrounds.

Pictured, Sara Moran, Leigh Hatfield and Megan Dale, fifth grade students at Julia Lee Moore Elementary School, play on a large map of the United States painted on the school’s playground. The map, which was painted by a teacher at school, Lee Scroggin, and her husband, Bob, is designed to help students with geography by showing them the locations of the various states. Sara, Leigh and Megan are part of a group of students who are in the process of creating games which can be played on the map.

Becca Keith, teacher at Ruth Doyle Intermediate School, said she longed to enter into the teaching career ever since the tender age of four. Now that she has been a teacher in the Conway School District for the past 23 years, her hard work and dedication in the local school system has been recognized. Keith was named Conway’s’ districtwide teacher of the year Monday morning when Superintendent James Simmons, Ruth Doyle Principal Debi Avra and members of the award’s selection committee entered her classroom with several balloons and big smiles.
