Couple reports being threatened at motel
A Conway man was arrested Thursday evening after a couple claimed he threatened them with a gun at the Stacey Motel.
According to an incident report, police were called out at 9:45 p.m. Thursday to the motel on Old Morrilton Highway after 31-year-old William Vann reportedly threatened a couple with a pistol.
As officers arrived on scene, Vann was still yelling "in the faces of a white male and female."
According to the incident report, the officers had to separate the individuals because they would not stop yelling at each other as the officer tried to speak with them. Once the suspect was detained, the couple told officers that Vann threatened them with a 9mm pistol.
The 31-year-old man agreed to allowing officers search him and his vehicle, where authorities.
"In order to de-escalate the situation, we moved Vann to the other side of a nearby vehicle," one of the responding officers wrote in his report. "I asked Vann for consent to search his person; he consented. While I did not locate a weapon, I did locate a small, clear plastic baggie of what I know to be marijuana in the right coin pocket of his jeans. ... During our conversation, I asked Vann for consent to search his vehicle in attempts to find the weapon that [the alleged victims] vehemently claimed that Vann had. Vann consented and [another officer] began to search the vehicle. Almost immediately, [she] advised me that she found a 9mm round in the backseat of the truck."
According to the incident report, Van smelled strongly of alcohol and was believed to be intoxicated while authorities spoke with him and searched his belongings. In his statement, he told police he was at the hotel dropping his girlfriend off at her room when the complainants began cursing him in the parking lot, triggering a heated argument between the three individuals. The woman who Vann claimed was his girlfriend walked out of her room as police were searching Vann's vehicle and denied being the suspect's significant other.
"I could see that she was intoxicated as well," one of the officers wrote of his initial contact with the woman. "I asked her where here and her boyfriend, Vann, had been. She told me that Vann was not her boyfriend, and he was there because they were, 'Going to get freaky.'"
The woman allowed police into her room to search for the gun Vann reportedly had. While searching the room, the 31-year-old man began accusing officers of planting evidence — "a glass pipe for smoking marijuana" — on him.
Officers never found the gun Van reportedly threatened the complainants with. However, he was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
Man steals medication from Walmart
An unknown suspect allegedly shoplifted from the Walmart on Dave Ward Drive on Saturday.
According to an incident report, a white man "carrying a blue reusable bag inside of a shopping cart" went to the pharmacy section, took some over-the-counter medicine and left the store.
Store employees reportedly attempted to confront him about not paying for the merchandise. However, the suspect "ignored the customer host and walked past her."
Walmart's asset prevention officer met up with the suspect in the parking lot to confront him about stealing items but the suspect took his flip flops off and ran to his vehicle, "a reddish orange Nissan Sentra."
