With the end of school and the beginning of summer come all the possibilities of fun and adventure. There will certainly be some new restaurants to try out this summer as several new restaurants and new cuisines are introduced to the area.

Lenny’s Grill and Subs sandwich shop is expected to open at 2501 Dave Ward Drive, Suite B1 in the Nutter’s Chapel Plaza in July. Featured are deli sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks and grilled subs. Some may remember a Lenny’s Subs that opened in the Salem shopping center but it closed some time ago.

Verona’s Italian Restaurant recently opened a location at 190 Highway 65 North across from the Conway Towne Centre entrance. The menu features various pastas, baked pastas as well as a variety of chicken and seafood entrees. The extensive dessert menu includes Italian Cream Cake and three different kinds of cheesecake. While the restaurant is closed on Mondays, is open from 11 to 9 p.m. daily except for Sunday when it closes an hour early.

Taqueria La Cabana, 52 South Broadview, Suite 102, opened in Greenbrier last weekend. Featuring street tacos, burritos, gorditas, quesadillas and more, the restaurant has an extensive selection of meats and a toppings bar.

David’s Burgers second location at Lewis Crossing opened this past week as did Katmandu MOMO at 1018 Oak Street. Andy’s Frozen Custard, 201 Oak, will have its ribbon cutting on Friday, June 22 at 2 p.m. The new location will offer free small cones from 1-3 p.m.

Freddie’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, which has opened several locations in central and northwest Arkansas over the past year, is building a location at 820 E. Oak. Founded in 2002, this red and white restaurant serves cooked-to-order burgers and hotdogs along with sundaes, concretes and cones. The restaurant will be opening this summer.

Another anticipated restaurant opening is the new Pizza Ranch location at 955 Covington Way off of Dave Ward Drive. The restaurant web site lists the opening for June/July. The “Buffet Your Way” includes specialty pizzas, dessert pizzas and fried chicken as well as sides and salads.

Signage is up for the Burge’s Hickory Smoked Turkeys and Hams on Dave Ward Drive by Acxiom but still no word on the opening dates. Reports are that work is still being done inside.

The Daiquiri House is advertising on Facebook that it will be opening in Conway. While no specific address has been given, it was said that the bar will be locating in the downtown area. Daquiri machines, beer taps and a full bar plus live music and TVs were anticipated. It also said there would be Hookahs and a cigar bar.

Fred Washington, a former Windstream engineer, is reported to be the owner. He is also owner/founder of Mirror Me Studio, a luxury, high-end, custom-tailored clothing, accessories and shoes business for men, women and children.

Ridgemere, the 92-unit luxury seniors housing campus being constructed by Abby Development on 14 acres at Prince and College will include a fishing lake surrounded by 20 two- and three-bedroom independent living cottages. Each will have a private patio, an attached two-car garage and high-end finishes.

The complex will also have 48 assisted living units and 24 memory care suites. The assisted living units will be available in studio, one- and two-bedroom floor plans while the memory care wing will provide secure studio spaces for those with Alzheimer’s or other memory related issues.

The city of Conway, DHTC Development and Salter Construction broke ground on May 23 for a new housing development at the corner of Siebenmorgen Road and Factory Street. This affordable housing will include 44 housing units that will be available to qualifying families with income at or below 60 percent of the area median income as well as some for families at 30 percent of the area median income. All homes will be three bedroom/two baths.

Conway parks have been getting some needed attention over the past several months and will continue to see improvements over the summer. In addition to the addition of the splash pad, more parking and a pavilion will be added at Laurel Park. The bathrooms are also being rebuilt at both Beaverfork Park and Fifth Avenue Park. Work crews have also been clearing brush and overgrown vegetation to help channel flow along Tucker Creek.
