Two lakes in Faulkner County have been temporarily closed to swimmers due to water issues.

The state health department shut down the swimming/beach area at Beaverfork Lake Park on Friday.

“The health department is performing retest[s] of the lake and we are hoping to reopen soon,” Conway Parks and Recreation officials said in a statement. “Please note, this doesn’t effect boating and/or fishing.”

Also Friday, the Woolly Hollow State Park announced it had postponed its 33rd annual Fun Day, which was previously scheduled for Thursday, to June 21.

“The swim beach has been closed due to a water quality issue,” a park spokesman said.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 11 a.m. at the park. Activities include sack races, watermelon seed spitting and wheelbarrow races.

Free swimming and paddle boating will be available that day between noon and 7 p.m.
