Suspicious homeless man jailed on meth charge

A homeless man was arrested over the weekend after authorities reportedly found methamphetamine in his pocket.

According to an incident report, police were called out to Fifth Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday regarding a suspicion man who was walking around homes in the area. Police were initially alerted the suspect was wandering around people's homes on Third Avenue.

A nearby officer soon located the suspect on Fifth Avenue.

The man, identified as 40-year-old Keith Bell, said he was only "cutting through the yards [on Third Avenue] to get to 5th Avenue Park and get under the pavilion before it began to rain."

After granting the responding officer permission to search him, officer Jeremy Perkins soon found a small baggy containing suspected narcotics in Bell's right coin pocket.

"In the baggy was a crystalline substance, believed to be methamphetamine," officer Perkins wrote in his report. "Keith was then detained and read his Miranda rights. After being Mirandized, eh agreed to answer my questions without an attorney present. I asked him what was in the bag. He stated that it was probably drugs. I asked him what kind of drugs and he responded by saying, 'We both know what kind of drugs.'"

According to the incident report, the substance tested positive for methamphetamine using a field test kit on scene. Keith was then charged with possession of a controlled substance and taken to the county jail.

LR woman attempts to steal more than $700 worth of items from Academy Sports

A Little Rock woman was jailed after reportedly shoplifting from Academy Sports over the weekend.

Police were called out to Academy Sports shortly after 2:30 p.m. Saturday after employees said a woman was running out of the store with several hundred dollars worth of merchandise.

According to an incident report, a man who was with the suspect drove off without her, leaving her standing in the parking lot.

The store's loss prevention officer said she'd followed behind the suspect, picking up items she dropped in the parking lot as she attempted to flee. When CPD arrived on scene, the loss prevention officer said she believed the suspect fled into a nearby store.

Officer Thaddeus Burrow soon located the suspect, who was later identified as 52-year-old Jacueline Brown Gray of Little Rock.

"I went into Michaels to see if she was in the store," the incident report reads in part. "As I entered the store, I looked over to the register area and saw a black female matching the physical and clothing description of the female suspect. As I was approaching her, she was on the phone and yelling at whoever she was talking to, yelling that he shouldn't have left her."

According tot he report, the officer soon found "a couple pairs of shoes" inside the woman's purse.

"Gray had a large purse she was carrying that had a couple pairs of shoes in it," the report states. "[The loss prevention officer] identified the merchandise and took possession of it."

When talking to police after being handcuffed on scene, Gray told police "she had a drug problem and things get hard sometimes."

Gray was ultimately charged with theft of property after reportedly trying to steal $739.93 worth of merchandise from Academy Sports and taken to the county jail Saturday afternoon.
