Individuals in school across Faulkner County have been working hard to prepare for their respective spelling bees recently.

“Westside Elementary in Greenbrier has been a long[-]time participant in the Scripps National Spelling Bee,” officials said.

The school’s annual event on Nov. 9 produced three winners: fifth-grade student Corbin Jobe took first place, third-grade student Jordan Church took second and fifth-grade student Alexis McNeil took third.

Both Jobe and Church, as respective first- and second-place winners, will now go on to compete in the county spelling bee, which will be held Jan. 12, 2019 at James H. Clark Auditorium in Conway.

Winners from that competition will advance to the state and national competitions in 2019.
