Across the county, children are celebrating the last day of school and the start of summer vacation.
Friday was the last day of school for students in the Vilonia, Greenbrier and Mayflower school districts.
Thursday was the last day of school for students in Conway Public Schools.
Ellen Smith Elementary School first-grade teacher Lana Reynolds created binders for her students filled with memories from the school year.
She also gave each student an award based on their individual qualities.
“The end of the school year is such a special time,” Communication Specialist Heather Kendrick said. “I love that our teachers, like Mrs. Reynolds, take the time to honor each student for what he/she has contributed to the classroom this year. She recognizes their individual talents, skills and growth and makes sure they leave first grade with confidence and pride.”
Parents were invited to Reynolds’ classroom on Wednesday to participate in a luau and see their children receive their award.
Student Karson Deshazer, who received the Awesome Energy award, demonstrated how he got that title as he beamed while Reynolds described his boundless energy.
Another student, Math Whiz award winner, was more calm, as he listened to Reynolds describe his knowledge of the subject, clasping his fingers and smiling while she spoke.
