Residents across the county are welcomed to take a break and enjoy the 34th annual Family Fun Day at Woolly Hollow State Park on Thursday.

The annual event helps local youth kick off their summer breaks and enjoy the amenities offered at the park.

Family Fun Day brings park staff and the community together as those who attend are able to swim for free. Paddle boating is also available at no cost during the event.

Park staff will have several games and competitions set up along the shore, including sack races, watermelon seed spitting, bubble gum blowing, a water balloon toss and limbo.

Woolly Hollow State Park is home to Lake Bennett and is located about 6.5 miles off Highway 65 in Greenbrier and offers camping, swimming, site-seeing and hiking opportunities.

Family Fun Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and is open for all to attend.

Concessions will be available onsite as well. However, due to technical difficulties, only cash will be accepted during the event.

One of the park's employees told the Log Cabin Democrat on Wednesday that "all kinds of prizes" will be available for children participating in the many competitions held during the event. Free snow cones also will be provided during Family Fun Day.

"It's just a lot of fun," officials said while encouraging area residents to attend the event. "This park has always been such a wholesome family park. We're real proud of that. We welcome families to come out and have a great day."

Some families have made it a tradition to attend the annual event every year.

Last year, Inza Bates told the Log Cabin that her family has taken part in Family Fun Day "for over 20 years."
