A Greenbrier man is behind bars in the county jail after officials filed eight sexual assault charges against him last week.

Online records show that 41-year-old Kevin Barton was formally charged in Faulkner County Circuit Court on June 4 with eight counts of second-degree sexual assault. The Greenbrier man was arrested Monday afternoon and remained behind bars in the Faulkner County Detention Center as of press time Tuesday.

According to the felony probable cause affidavit filed against the 41-year-old, Baton is accused of fondling a close family member several times.

The Faulkner County Sheriff's Office was alerted of the alleged abuse in October after receiving notification of a case that needed to be transferred to Faulkner County from Paulding County, Georgia.

Paulding County authorities were alerted of the incidents in question by the alleged victim's grandmother, according to the report. The girl confided in her grandmother about the abuse after moving to Georgia to live with her grandmother.

The alleged victim claimed she traveled several times with Barton while he drove through across several states as a trucker over a nine-year period. She said Barton "fondled her from age 8 to 17" at his Greenbrier home and also when "she went on the road with him at times."

Second-degree sexual assault is a Class B felony. If found guilty, Barton faces five to 20 years in prison.
