One Conway couple recently took to the orchards to enjoy its fresh fruits among the sunny, summer day.

Marie Turner told the Log Cabin Democrat it was actually a friend of hers that suggested traveling to the Cadron Creek Orchard in Guy, Ark.

“I had been wanting to go anyways, because I recently saw another friend of mine posted about it and it looked like a lot of fun,” she said.

So, Marie and her husband, David, loaded into their car and traveled the short distance from Conway on June 30.

“When we got there, the girl working that day directed us to the trees we could pick from,” Marie said. “I guess there’s a rotation that they go by to avoid over-picking some trees and under-picking others.”

Many from across the state travel to the orchard during summer months, according to owners, but Marie said this day the area wasn’t crowded.

“Which is always nice,” she said.

The couple had the option to pick peaches and blackberries but opted for just the yellowish, fuzzy, round fruit, though, Marie said they’d like to go back and pick others. She said they ended up with between 12-15 at around $2.50 a pound.

“Friends of ours that went easily picked double that amount,” Marie said.

Up by the cash register, she said, the orchard had stands set up selling peaches, blackberries, zucchini and watermelon.

“My favorite part was eating the peaches afterwards,” Marie said, laughing.

She said this trip was first time there but it definitely won’t be their last.

“It just doesn’t compare to what you get in stores,” Marie said.

Cadron Creek Orchard, open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday, is located at 86 Mode Road, in Guy, Ark.
