Additional charges have been brought against a Morrilton man accused of robbing a Conway bank at gunpoint in November.

Demitris Maple, 31, was officially charged Tuesday with felony fleeing, reckless driving and no driver’s license in Conway County Circuit Court, part of the 15th Judicial District of the state of Arkansas.

Maple was apprehended Nov. 19 — the day after he was alleged to have robbed Conway’s Arkansas Federal Credit Union at gunpoint — by authorities in Pope County after leading multiple agencies on a vehicle-pursuit from Morrilton to Pottsville.

A Morrilton Police Department incident report attached to an arrest warrant affidavit states officers first observed Maple in a Walmart parking lot in the 1600 block of Arkansas 9. Police originally responded to a shoplifter report at the store.

After identifying Maple and his vehicle, police said Maple exited the parking lot at a high rate of speed and ignored an officer’s attempt to initiate a traffic stop. Police said the vehicle ignored two stop signs and drove at a high rate of speed before merging onto Interstate 40 in the westbound lane.

Three spike strips were set out along the interstate, according to the incident report. Police said the first set at Atkins was unsuccessful, but the second set punctured the suspect’s tires and caused the vehicle to enter the median. Maple exited the vehicle — which continued across the westbound lanes and into a wooded area north of the interstate — and ran across the eastbound lanes and jumped a nearby fence. Police chased Maple past Pottsville Assembly of God Church and across U.S. 64 toward the railroad tracks, the incident report states.

Maple was taken into custody south of U.S. 64 and transported to the Morrilton Police Department.

According to court documents, no arraignment has been set in the case.

Maple will next appear in Faulkner County Circuit Court on Feb. 26 for a status report. Maple received another extension to allow more time to hire an attorney at his previous hearing before Circuit Judge Mike Maggio on Feb. 3.

In Faulkner County Circuit Court, Maple faces charges of aggravated robbery, theft of property and possession of a firearm by a certain person for his alleged involvement in the Nov. 18 armed robbery of the Arkansas Federal Credit Union at 220 Skyline Drive in Conway. He is being held at the Faulkner County jail on a $250,000 bond.
