Seven years ago, New York's 92nd Street Y, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, came up with a simple idea to encourage people to do good and give to others.

Giving Tuesday, created in 2012, has now spread beyond the U.S., encouraging millions across the globe.

"Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give," the movement's website reads.

In 2018 alone, more than $400 million was raised in 150 plus countries.

Every year, nonprofits, small businesses, schools and other organizations participate in the day including several from Faulkner County like THINK Coffee in Conway, owned by John and Jo Smith.

"It's Giving Tuesday," THINK Coffee posted to its Facebook page. "One of our favorite days of the year."

The business encouraged patrons to come out and give, this year partnering with Milestone Services — formerly Faulkner County Day School — promising to donate all tips and 10% of the coffee kiosk's sales to support the organization.

Milestones Early Childhood Services provides early intervention for children from birth to 5 years old, who are delayed or who are at risk of developmental delays due to medical conditions through therapy services like outpatient, nursing service, transportation, nutrition and childcare.

"Come drink some coffee and help us support Milestones on this special day of giving during the holiday season," the  social media post reads.

Arkansas Asset Builders, which helps support the community through providing free income tax services for lower income households, is also participating and so is the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre.

"Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday," AST officials posted. "Consider AST in your giving as we grow our fall tour each year to reach more and more underserved kids in the state of Arkansas, brining smiles."

Additional local groups to Conway that are participating include: the AETN Foundation, Conway Cradle Care, Deliver Hope, Southern Paws Transport and United Way of Central Arkansas to name a few.
