Dr. Carl Tabb Bahner of Conway has accepted a position as head of the department of chemistry in Carson-Newman College, an 86-year-old Baptist institution at Jefferson City, Tenn., it was learned today. Dr. Bahner and family will leave Aug. 2 for Jefferson City and he will assist in preparing plans for a new science building the college is soon to erect. Dr. Bahner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G.L. Bahner the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E.P.J. Garrott of Conway.

Mrs. Paul A. Pickhardt entertained with a miscellaneous shower at her home last night for Miss Betty Sue Ward, bride-elect of Joe White. The house was decorated throughout with arrangements of mixed summer flowers and the guests were served punch, mints and individual cakes by the hostess. The honoree received numerous gifts from the 20 guests.

Paul McGinty Jr., 30, joined the Conway Police Department recently as a patrolman. McGinty a native of Texas, was raised in Greenbrier and now lives in Conway with his wife, Kathy, and their four children. He worked for more than six years as material handler at White Consolidated Industries Commercial Refrigeration Division, formerly Universal Nolin Co. McGinty is scheduled to undergo training soon at the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy at Camden.

Activities director Tonya McConnell led participants of the Conway Senior Citizens Center in a Hawaiian dance during a luau on Friday. The day involved a limbo contest a Hula-Hoop competition, tropical fruit bingo and a potluck. Participating in the dance with McConnell were Peggy Sturgis, Melby Teer, Gene Hurst and Maurine Cooley.
