After a day’s respite from intense heat Wednesday, the temperature again soared at Conway Thursday, with a maximum of 105 degrees being attained during the afternoon. The weather continued clear and hot today, with little prospect for an immediate change in conditions. Partly cloudy weather was forecast for tonight and Saturday.

Jay Fortner, receiving supervisor at the Virco Mfg. Corp’s plant, was presented a plaque for outstanding services rendered to the Virco-Conway Management Club at a meeting last Tuesday night at Town House Restaurant. The presentation was made by Lawrence Sanders.

Fortner is a past public relation chairman of the club.

John Paul Stevens Jr., 16-month-old son of John Paul Sr. and Barbara Stevens of Conway, participated recently in the Central Arkansas Spina Bifida Baby Pageant at the Robinson Center-Auditorium in Little Rock.

The baby won a ribbon for placing second in the beauty division and a trophy for placing second in the overall scoring.

The baby’s grandparents are Burn Nell Stevens of Conway and the late D.E. Stevens and Patricia and Donald Wilson of Havelock, N.C.

The Greenbrier Razorbacks recently finished second in the Arkansas Amateur Baseball Association Minor Little League. The district 6 champion finished 27-7. Team members are Taylor Reynolds, Jake Palmer, Tyler Thomas, Jay Boone, Preston Kelso, Wayne Terry, Jake Standridge, Derrick Davis, Adam Chapman, Taylor Nelson and Garrett Palmer. Coaches are Sam Kelso and Chuck Boone.
