D.A. Harton defeated Joe L. Glover in a run-off election for California Township committeeman in yesterday’s election.

Horton received 85 votes to Glover’s 58.

S.W. Shaw was eliminated in the July 31 preferential primary.

More votes were polled in the California box than any other box in the county.

Tina Sessions, 6, and Amanda Collie, 3, enjoyed a laugh together as Amanda treated her friend to an unexpected shower of water over the head. The two girls were cooling off in Beaverfork Lake during yesterday’s mid-90s temperature along with their mothers, Donna Sessions of Springhill and Brenda Collie of Conway. The expected high today will range from 95 to 100 degrees with a 20 percent chance of thundershowers.

Nancy Thompson is the new regent of Cadron Post Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is the wife of Truitt W. Thompson Jr. and the mother of three daughters, Linda, Katie and Catherine.

Other new officers are Mrs. Rodney Kilduff, vice regent; Mrs. Sherbert Benton, chaplain; Mrs. Edsel Voyles, secretary; Sharon Lessenberry, treasurer; Mrs. Wilburn Smith, registrar; Mrs. Joseph LaFace, historian; and Mrs. Robert MacLean, librarian.
