Esther and Charles C. Wright of Conway celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 6, 2011, at the home of Mrs. Wright’s sister, Delphene Turner and husband Danny. The couple was married Aug. 3, 1951.

Their daughters, Karen Ward and husband, Joel, and Donna Gail Wright; together with Esther’s sister, JoAnne Bomer and husband Jimmy, co-hosted the event. Nieces of the couple, Cindy Davenport, Carolyn Meins and Susan Bomer, assisted their daughter, Karen, with serving. Their daughter, Donna Gail, was in charge of the guest book.  Friends, relatives, and some members of the Ed’s Bakery Coffee group joined in the celebration.

The couple are longtime residents of Conway. Charles served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, receiving injuries during the battle for Iwo Jima. His Marine Division raised the flag at Mount Suribachi. Charles and Esther both attended Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA), and Esther was employed by Montgomery Ward.

Esther and Charles have one grandchild, Josie Ward of Little Rock.
