Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Zemp of Conway, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Nov. 5. A reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the First Freewill Baptist Church, 1625 Washington Ave.
Hosting the celebration will be their son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Janet Zemp, also of Conway.
The couple requests no gifts, just come and celebrate this joyous occasion with them.
Leonard proposed to the former Juanita (Nita) Johnson while on leave from basic training. Before they married, Leonard served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines, Okinawa and Korea. Being honorably discharged in 1947. He returned to Quitman and married. The couple was married by Juanita’s uncle, the Rev. Will Tacket, at the 1st Methodist Church in Enders.
The couple made their first home in Pawnee, Okla., and then moved to Ponca City, Okla., where he was employed by Conoco Oil Company, until his retirement in 1983.
Mrs. Zemp worked for Conoco Oil Company briefly before becoming a self-employed beautician until her retirement in 1982.
Mr. and Mrs. Zemp enjoyed extensive traveling abroad and in the U.S. Their hobbies include fishing, yard work, and visiting family and friends.
The couple have a grandson, Jeff Zemp and his wife, Erin, and their children, Kaleb, Noah and Donovan; and a granddaughter April Zemp-Bacher and her husband, Stephen, and their children, Jacob and Treavor.
