Helm and Dottie Cooper recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Helm from Memphis, Tenn., and Dottie (Broome) from Laurel, Miss., met at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Miss. After dating four months, they eloped to Conway and with the help of his grandmother, Mrs. George Joseph, they were married at First Baptist Church by the Rev. William Flynt on Feb. 4th, 1963.
They returned to Conway in 1970 to settle down and raise their family. Helm retired in 2007 after teaching and coaching 35 years at Jacksonville, Mayflower, and Conway. He retired from Half Hitch Tackle, Panama City Beach, Fla. In 2010 after working summers for 25 years. Dottie has been a homemaker which allowed them to be Foster Parents to over 100 children in a 10 year period.
They have four children and nine grandchildren: Kelly (Woody) Simmons, Jordan and Carson of Little Rock; Buster (Valerie) Cooper, Cassie, Holly, Savannah, Drake of Conway; Hugh (Nicole) Cooper, Cecilia and Anderson of Little Rock and Ronnie Paul Cooper of Memphis, Emma of Russellville.
They celebrated with a family dinner hosted by the children at Mike’s Place.
