Mike and Sharon Rapp are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The Rapps were married Dec. 23, 1963, at Bethany General Baptist Church near Malden, Mo.

After spending four years at Indiana University, Bloomington, they moved to Conway in 1968 for Mike to begin his career as a chemistry professor at the University of Central Arkansas (then State College of Arkansas).

Daughters Inge and Gretchen were born in Conway and after they began attending school, Sharon returned to teaching French through serving the students of Conway Public Schools.

The couple has enjoyed making a life together in the community through their teaching, as well as through their involvement in a variety of community activities and organizations (Peace Lutheran Church, Scouts, Cheerful Givers, Bethlehem House, and the arts, among others).

They have also enjoyed traveling together. In addition to national and foreign destinations, Mike and Sharon treasure visits with their grandchildren, Zoë Poole (Tim and Inge) and Kellan Sakkinen (Shane and Gretchen) in Tennessee.

The Rapps thank the community of Conway/Faulkner County for its significant role in their 50 years together.
