A Vilonia man was arrested at about 11:30 this morning after an alleged fight with deputies at the 8-Mile Store on Highway 64 a few miles east of Conway.

According to Maj. Andy Shock of the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office, Marcello Maldonado, 21, of 18 Jordan Road, Vilonia, had walked about half a mile to the convenience store after abandoning his Chrysler PT Cruiser at a nearby business and threatening workers there.

"Mr. Maldonado and his passenger had been in some type of argument while driving down the highway and he just locked up the brakes ... and slid sideways into the ditch and into a parking lot of Moix Tractor Company," Shock said.

When Maldonado allegedly made threats against employees of the business, Shock said the employees called police. A deputy responding to the area noticed a man matching Maldonado’s description walking into the 8-Mile store and attempted to question him. Shock said Maldonado did not cooperate with the deputy or another who arrived, and later resisted arrest, "seriously scratching" one deputy’s hand in a scuffle.

He was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, two counts third-degree battery and for a warrant for failure to appear. Both Maldonado and the deputy he is alleged to have injured were evaluated by MEMS at the scene. The deputy drove to Conway Regional Medical Center for further treatment to his hand. Maldonado’s passenger was not arrested.
