Local attorney Amy Brazil was appointed Tuesday to the position of district judge by Gov. Mike Beebe.
Brazil, a Conway native, will fill the position left vacant by Russell L. "Jack" Roberts, who died in June after 27 years of service as a district judge in the city of Conway.
Brazil graduated from Conway High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Hendrix College in 1988 and a juris doctorate in 1992 from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
After graduating law school, Brazil joined her father’s law firm. Brazil also worked for American Management Corporation Inc. for nine years. She most recently worked as an attorney with the Conway law firm Brazil, Adlong, Winningham and Mickel.
She is a member of the Faulkner County and Arkansas Bar Associations.
Beebe spokesman Matt DeCample said a formal announcement will be made within the next two days.
