Two Faulkner County men were sentenced in connection with the theft of an ATV in Conway.
Danny Shane Bennett, 35, and John F. Rogers, 34, were convicted of stealing a 4-wheeler and alluding officers during the ensuing chase, according to 20th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden.
Rogers pled guilty to the theft of the ATV and received 20 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction with 10 years suspended. Bennett pled guilty to hindering apprehension and was sentenced to 71 months in ADC. Both Rogers and Bennett had previously been convicted of other felonies.
The incident began when the two men stole the ATV, valued at $7,500, from a residential neighborhood on the east side of Conway. The men tied a rope to the 4-wheeler and pulled it behind a car. Bennett reportedly drove the vehicle, while Rogers steered the ATV. A resident reported seeing the car towing the 4-wheeler in front of his home.
Faulkner County Sheriff’s deputies located the pair and began the pursuit.
Rogers jumped off of the ATV, leaving no one in control of the 4-wheeler before it left the roadway, flipped on its side and struck a tree, breaking the tow rope. Bennett was later stopped by law enforcement after leading officers on a 100-mph chase.
