The Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and Salter Properties held groundbreaking ceremonies Wednesday morning for a new mixed-use development near the University of Central Arkansas campus.
The $30 million development, located on Dave Ward Drive, includes Centerstone Apartments and The Plazza at Centerstone.
“We are very excited about this project,” Jack Bell, assistant to the mayor, said at the groundbreaking. “The city of Conway and Salter Properties have partnered together in the past, and they always do a quality job.”
The $20 million Centerstone Apartments will be a gated, upscale residential community. The 264-unit complex will feature a resort-style swimming pool, a sand volleyball court and a clubouse with gym and meeting facilities. The 278,000-square foot development will be comprised of one, two and three bedroom apartments, including units with enclosed garages.
“We began the process of having this property rezoned in November of 2008, so it is nice to finally see it coming to fruition,” Brent Salter, vice president of Salter Properties, said. “We are hopefully creating something that will raise the bar a bit with regard to apartment living here and give people a different atmosphere for enjoying Conway in The Plazza.”
The $10 million Plazza at Centerstone, which will be within walking distance from the apartments, is also being developed by Salter Properties in conjuction with the residential component. The 50,000-square foot development will feature restaurant, retail and office space. The first of four phases is currently under construction.
“Today’s announcement is continued prrof that Conway and Faulkner County’s local economy is strong,” Conway Mayor Tab Townsell said. “Centerstone adds more quality, mixed-use development to the growing southern part of Conway. It’s a very welcome addition.”
Centerstone will be connected to UCA and adjoining neighborhoods by a new city trail system along Stone Dam Creek.
