CONWAY (AP) — A prosecutor is asking the Arkansas State Police for a report on a July 19 traffic stop of Circuit Judge Michael Maggio in Van Buren County.
Maggio was stopped on U.S. 65 by Trooper Brian Johnson for speeding — but was not given a ticket or a warning after the trooper saw what he referred to as Maggio's "badge."
Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden has written State Police Col. Winfred Phillips asking for a report on the stop. Vaden also wants information on any display of a badge by the judge.
Maggio did not return phone calls for comment.
Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission director David Stewart says some circuit judges obtain badges for identification.
