Habitat for Humanity of Faulkner County along with members of the Hendrix and University of Central Arkansas Habitat chapters will be sleeping in Simon Park on Oct. 4 in support World Habitat Day 2010. In its 24th year, WHD advocates for neighborhood revitalization and secure and decent housing for all.
Focusing on this year’s theme, Better City, Better Life, volunteers hope to bring awareness to “our community that homelessness and poverty housing does exist in Conway”, according to Habitat’s Executive Director, Patricia Hoskins.. “Participants will emulate homelessness by giving up the luxury of indoor living for one night outdoors”.
According to Hoskins, “The United Nations has designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day. The idea is to reflect on the potential and possibilities of everyone and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter.”
The event is open to the public. Media and others are encouraged to join or visit the participants at Simon Park 4:30 p.m. Oct. 4 until 7 a.m. the next morning. To volunteer for the awareness project, call the Habitat office at 513-3244
