FORT WORTH, Texas — The University of Central Arkansas men’s golf team shot rounds of 290 and 297 on Monday and stand in a tie for 12th place in the Texas-Arlington/Waterchase Invitational being played at the par-72 Waterchase Golf Club.
UCA shot an opening-round 2-under 290, led by senior Andrew Hopkins with a 70 in the morning round. Senior Steven Lecuyer came in with a 71 in the afternoon round (72-71 — 143) and is tied for 10th overall. Junior Josh Sims shot 75-74 — 149 and is tied with Hopkins (79-79 — 149) for 49th place. Senior Jad Sinclair had rounds of 73-77 — 150 and is tied for 58th place, while senior Gideon Pienaar shot 78-75 — 153 and is tied for 70th.
North Texas is in the lead at 556, followed by Southern Mississippi (566), Santa Clara (574), Rice (579), Louisiana Tech (581), UT-Arlington Orange and UT-Arlington (582), Texas State, Sam Houston State and Texas Wesleyan (583), Nicholls (586), UCA and Wichita State (587), Southern Illinois (595), Stephen F. Austin (596), Texas-San Antonio (597), McNeese State (603), Houston Baptist (607) and Texas Pan American (609).
Texas Wesleyan’s Armando Villarreal and Southern Miss’ Derek Plucienski are tied for the lead at 133.
The third and final round will be played Tuesday.
