From the Greenbrier column: Mrs. Lester Lieblong and son spent the weekend with M. S. Brown and family of Conway. Thomas E. Allison entered the CCC camp at Heber Springs. Mrs. Allison will stay here with her mother, Mrs. J.H. Mayhew. Sam Glover and family of Needs Creek spent Sunday with W. J. Cato and familty. Miss Blanche Cantrell spent the weekend in Conway.

Mrs. Carl E. Heizman and Carol and Chris Heizman of Little Rock were spending the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Robins.

William H. Sanson won nomination as Faulkner County representative in the runoff Democratic primary. He polled 2,902 votes to 2,586 for Ralph R. Harrell of Mayflower. Benton Sevier, manager of the plumbing department of Hambuchen Supply Co., won nomination for First Ward alderman by defeating John B. Silaz Jr. by a margin of 449 votes to 371 votes.

The new First State Bank, which opened recently, had a community room that should prove a popular meeting place for small groups, homas G. Wilson, president said. The room, on the second floor, could accommodate 40 to 50 people. The Faulkner County Historical Soiety was the first organization to make reservations in the community room.

The billboard spelled out the final chapter of the 65 Drive-in movie theater on Highway 65B. The words said, “Closed Forever.” The 34-year-old drive-in closed Sept 1., part of a national trend of declining drive-in popularity.

Seven Faulkner County students were named semifinalists to compete for scholarships provided through the 31st annual National Merit Scholarship program. The seven included Betty L. Bland, Greenbrier High School; Deborah R. Bruce, Mike M. Clark, Douglas C. Merrill, David Shoemaker, Elizabeth Thomas and Thomas Van Hook, all of conway High School.

The under-14 Conway Netburners opened the season with a 9-1 victory over Maumelle. Tyler Maeesinger, Cole Myers and Ryan Leonard had two goals each for Conway. Eric Harris, Adam Stengel and Randall Sledge scored a goal apiece. CarterCalico and Eric Harris were defensive standouts in the soccer game. 

David Lee was named Conway School District Teacher of the Year. Lee was a teacher of music at Ellen Smith Elementary School. Other teachers of the year selected by their schools included Julie Haynes, Mary Jane Gibbs, Susan Birdsong, Nelda Reed, Ron Seymour, Cory Oliver, Theron Nunley, Dinah Reed, Bobbie Roberts, Renee Branton, Robbie Davis and Linda Boswell.
