The crowd expected here for the "turkey day" sales event sponsored by the trades division of the Conway Chamber of Commerce was held down by threatening weather this morning but by noon had increased and indications pointed to a successful day among the merchants taking part.
Ten free turkeys and $50 in cash prizes were the prizes offered to lure out-of-town buyers to Conway.

R. F. Rogers closed his hardware and seed store at 911 Front St., this week and announced he is retiring.
Rogers operated the store about seven years. It formerly was located at 913 Front St.

Amanda Leah Johnson, 3, daughter of Curtis and Dedi Johnson of Conway, was named overall beauty winner in the Imperial Miss Beauty and Photogenic pageant held recently at Oak Grove (Carroll Co.)
She was awarded $100 and a pearl and emerald ring. She was also named beauty and photogenic winner in the 3- and 4-year-old division. She is the granddaughter of George and Barbara Johnson of Greenbrier and Ralph and Barbara Shaw of Conway.

Wheat planting in Faulkner County resumed Wednesday, according to Bill Dodgen, Cooperative Extension Service agent. He added that 70 percent of the wheat had been planted and 60 percent had emerged.
