Mrs. O.D. Nation is convinced that advertising brings results. She inserted a small classified ad in Saturday’s Log Cabin Democrat, offering her daughter’s bicycle for sale. It was sold in 30 minutes after the paper was out, she said, and she afterwards answered at least 100 telephone calls inquiring about the bicycle, before she became exhausted and finally left the telephone receiver down.

The Mount Vernon City Council agreed last night to buy a new pump for one of the town’s fire trucks at an estimated cost of $7,000 to $7,500, Mayor Gerald Gilbert said today.

The town obtained the truck, one of three it maintains, from the U.S. Forest Service. The council also agreed to sell an old truck the town no longer uses.

Joe Thrash, president of Faulkner County Farm Bureau, recently received a 10-star plaque during the "Gold Star" awards program at the 66th annual Farm Bureau Convention. 

The "Gold Star" awards recognize county Farm Bureaus’ excellence in service to member programs and service-to-member programs during the past year.
