Representatives from Air Evac Lifeteam and the Arkansas Fluid Transporter Association hosted a public safety awareness event Friday afternoon along Highway 65 North. AFTA members were on hand to educate residents on the importance of safe driving around large tanker trucks. Large trucks take much longer to stop and have many more blind spots that an average passenger vehicle. AFTA President Johnny Hance said the organization visits local schools, especially drivers education classes, to encourage students to be aware of trucks on the road and avoid texting or excessive cell phone use while driving. Members of the Air Evac Lifeteam were also available to show residents the ins and outs of a medical helicopter and discuss their work with AFTA.
