A man was rescued from Lake Conway early Tuesday morning after his boat capsized and sank.

According to Ken Mayo, rescue boat commander with the Faulkner County Emergency Squad, the man, who was in his late 50s or early 60s, was able to contact 9-1-1 from his cell phone after the boat sank near Gold Creek.

The man was wearing a life jacket and held onto a tree until rescuers arrived on scene.

Mayo said the 9-1-1 call was received just after 6 a.m., and members of the emergency squad, MEMS and the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office were on scene at about 6:30 a.m.

Emergency squad members were able to paddle out and pick up the man in a rescue boat.

Mayo said the man, who was fishing on the lake, was very cold and was transported to Conway Regional Medical Center to be treated for hypothermia.
