Northfield, Minn. -- Zachary J. Gingerich from Conway, a student at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., is pursuing his academic studies in one of the many domestic or international programs offered through the Office of International and Off-campus studies at St. Olaf.
Gingerich is studying the French language and Moroccan culture in Fez during the January term. He is the son of James and Janet Gingerich of Conway. He is a student at Conway Senior High School.
In accordance with its mission statement to enhance students global perspective by helping them encounter and understand changes confronting our world in a context of global community, St. Olaf College has a deep tradition of study abroad. From interdisciplinary study travel to language immersion, scientific research to hands-on to service learning, St. Olaf has offered strong study abroad programs since the 1960s.
Among all baccalaureate institutions in the nation, St. Olaf sent the most students to study abroad during the 2008–09 academic year, according to the Open Doors 2010 Report on International Educational Exchange. St. Olaf, which earned the same ranking for 2007–08, currently offers nearly 90 study abroad programs in 48 countries, including Global Semester, Term in Asia, and Term in the Middle East.
