The national register nomination subcommittee of the Asa P. Robinson Historic District Commission considered a nomination to the National Register of Historic Places of Lasley’s College Apartments on Bruce Street.
The committee agreed to proceed with endorsement of the nomination, and Mayor Tab Townsell also gave his approval. Now, the nomination will be sent to the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, according to Steve Hurd, chairman.
The apartments were built in 1947 and bought that year by Jewell Lasley.
The courtyard complex has 16 apartments and was built to provide housing for students at Arkansas State Teachers College.
In other business, the committee discussed grant funding from the state agency that will be used for staff and commissioner training.
