The Conway Fire Department was made aware Thursday that a group has been soliciting donations via telephone on their behalf.
Fire Chief Bart Castleberry said he was notified by a Conway citizen that he had received a call from a person Wednesday, who identified themselves as being part of a group collecting money for upgraded fire equipment and training.
Castleberry said the Conway Fire Department does not contract anyone to solicit community members for money in their name.
"We do not solicit money that way, ever. If anyone tells you that they are collecting money for us, they are not," he said.
The group also claims to represent themselves as being "with the Little Rock Fire Department."
Little Rock Fire Department Assistant Chief Doug Coney said Thursday that the department is not contacting anyone in Conway or Little Rock to solicit donations.
If anyone is contacted by a group claiming to represent the Conway Fire Department, they are asked to call the department at 450-6143.
