Church Women United recently honored Julie Adkisson as Valiant Woman at the Friendship Day celebration.

Julie served as president of CWU in 2009 and 2010 and treasurer from 1995 to 2001.

She helped organize and build "Cradle Care" in 1995, a child care facility and mentoring program for teen parents. She has served on the board of directors since its inception, chaired each of the committees, organized fundraisers and even takes home the laundry weekly.

She is an elected Elder of First Presbyterian Church and moderated the Arkansas Presbytery in 2002 and General Council in 2003.

She has been a member and moderator of the Resource Center Advisory Council of the presbytery and travels to the Little Rock office to volunteer.

She participates monthly with "Daily Bread," an ecumenical group, preparing a meal for homeless or needy people at the Presbyterian Church.

Julie is a member of Conway 2025 — a steering committee planning for life in Conway in the year 2025. She has been active in many community groups: Shakespeare Club, 20th Century Club, Faulkner County Democratic Women, PEO, Haven House, and Pi Beta Phi alumnae.

In addition, four women were honored as Young Church Women of the year: Laura Cottongem of University Church of Christ, Jenny England of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Michelle Talley of First United Methodist Church, and Datondra Thomas of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
